Tips for Staying Focused and Entertained During Quarantine

Living in quarantine can sound fun at first. No classes to go to, no work, waking up when you want, and staying up as late as you want. But for many like me, quarantine has turned into one of the most boring times of my life. I've been forced to get creative and make my own fun.

Now that you have a little more time on your hands, it's a great time to clean up around your house and cleanout. Get rid of all those old clothes and items that you tell yourself you will wear and use but really will never wear. A cleaner environment can help boost your mood and getting up and doing something like cleaning can help you feel more productive and active. You can also find some old items that you forgot about and relive some good memories. Make quarantine a productive time and better yourself and your living space.ntine.

Tips to Be Successful in School

1. Sticky Notes

I have found sticky notes to be ESSENTIAL to stay organized this semester. I've been using them since the beginning of the semester and they help me stay focused on what I have coming up in each of my classes. I prefer to put them on the desktop of my computer so that I can edit them and I can always see what's due. But if physical sticky notes work for you, then, by all means, use them. They have really helped me stay organized and focused on what is immediately due rather than sifting through many emails and syllabi to find my assignments and due dates.

2. Calendar

Another ESSENTIAL tool to keep me organized has been Google Calendar. My calendar looks very bare right now so this is what the month of February looks like. Balancing two jobs, 7 classes and clubs demands heavy time management. I add everything to my calendar except homework and generally if it isn't on my calendar or sticky notes, it won't get done.

3. Talk to your professors

I can't tell you how many times I see people complain online or to me about issues that they are having with the transition to online learning, and their problem would be solved with just a quick email to their professor. Everybody is learning, everybody is transitioning and everyone is having to find new and creative solutions to the new problems created by COVID-19. Patience and communication are key in these scenarios and students and professors need to work together to make the transition to online classes as smooth and painless as possible.

Entertainment Ideas

The chat feature is my favorite part because I can comment and talk about the show without talking over what's playing. I highly recommend Netflix Party if you are looking for a new way to stay entertained during the quarantine.

2. Pick Up a New Hobby!

Have you been thinking about starting a new hobby but never really had the time to do it? Now it's a perfect time! Many of us are stuck at home working still, but a lot of us find that we have a lot more free time. Maybe use some of that time to learn a new skill, like cooking or baking. Or dust off that guitar that's been sitting in the back of your closet for the longest time. Take some time to learn how to paint or draw, or maybe pick up a new skill by learning Adobe Photoshop. Websites such as StackSkills offer courses on skills like programming, Adobe Creative Cloud, business, marketing, web design, and many others for as little as $15. Now is as good a time as ever to get started with that hobby that you've always been putting off.
